Use Probiotic Bar Soap to Make
Inexpensive Eco-Friendly Laundry Detergent!

LIQUID VERSION 1 (our preferred)
Ingredients:
- 2 cup baking soda (1 lb. carton)
- 1 Bar of Probiotic soap
Melt 1 bar soap with enough hot water to cover the bottom of a stock pot. Add 2 gallons of hot water and 2 c. baking soda (1 lb box) and stir. Easy, easy, easy!!! We feel this one works just as well if not better than the commonly found Version 2, below, and it's cheaper and quicker to make. Use 1/2 c. per load, 1/4 c. for front load machines. For heavily soiled clothes, I use a little extra.
Cost Analysis:
- 2 cup baking soda $0.70*
- 1 bar probiotic soap $3.75
Total cost for 2 gallons: $4.45
Number of loads with 2 gallons: 64
Total cost per load: $0.0695!!
LIQUID VERSION 2
Ingredients:
- 1 cup washing soda (not "BAKING" soda!)
- 1 cup Borax
- 1 Bar of Probiotic soap
Shred the Bar of Probiotic soap into a dish. Pour 6 cups of water into a pot, and place over low heat. Add shredded soap to water, and stir occasionally until dissolved. Remove pot from heat, and add 1 cup borax and 1 cup washing soda. Stir until dissolved. Pour into large pail (at least 2 gal. capacity). Add 4 cups hot water. Add 22 cups cold water. Stir, and let set for 24 hours.
The detergent will thicken, and may clump near the surface. Shake well before using. Use 1/2 cup per load. (1/4 c. for front load machines)

- 1 bar probiotic soap $3.75
Total cost for 2 gallons: $4.85
Number of loads with 2 gallons: 64
Total cost per load: $0.076!!
Powdered Laundry Detergent-
Top load machine
1 bar Probiotic Soap
1 Cup Washing Soda
½ Cup Borax-
Grate soap or break into pieces and process in a food processor until powdered.
Mix all ingredients.
For light load, use 1 Tablespoon.
For heavy or heavily soiled load, use 2 Tablespoons.
Yields: 3 Cups detergent. (Approx. 40 loads)

Inexpensive Fabric Softener Recipe
1 Cup White Vinegar Add vinegar to rinse cycle.
Works great. Removes residue and odors. Also helps to keep washing machine and hoses fresh and clean too.
